Bizarrely enough in my opinion, last nights Elvis was played by the same guy who a few months ago was Danny from Grease. Not sure he looks like either, but he was pretty good in terms of the Elvis voice. There is nothing like a spot of live music over your pasta and pizza, and every one had a great time. Even teen son said it was better than some live acts he has seen, and that is a compliment if ever there was one.
Tonight was another disappointing one for England fans, as we lost in a Euro qualifier to Croatia. In my opinion, and I am no expert they shouldn’t be changing their formation like that, and they seemed not to be able to kick the ball in the right direction. Come back David Beckham!!
Over the last few months I have been working with a colleague to deliver a leadership programme to District Nurses and Macmillan nurses. Today we had the last of the 7 days of the programme and I am really pleased to report a really positive response to the course and our delivery of it. This afternoon each group member gave a short presentation of their learning on the course and how they will be taking this forward, it made me really proud to be associated with them.
Nursing is getting a really bad press right now. Much of this is originating from the acute hospitals and I really can do little about this, as my work is in primary care. But with such a brilliant bunch of people leading our services at the bedside even though there is so much to do and despite the fact that the future is not clear I feel much more confident about the future of nursing in the community. One thing that has become clear is that senior managers really do need to do more to involve those working on the front line in the changes and redevelopments to services. They have been fascinated to know how much it costs the PCT every time someone is admitted to hospital, and while there will always be a need for people to be admitted, there are far too many people who go into hospital when actually they could be better and more safely cared for at home. Definitely a day to be proud of my district nursing roots!
