Below the line
That’s me, not good enough for my own job. I have a sneaking suspicion that politics of the highest order is at work, but can’t prove anything. I only heard this evening at 6.30 after spending all day waiting. For 5 years I have given my all to the job, but I am not surprised it has come to this. The NHS as it stands today doesn’t feel like a good place to be, so I must seriously consider my future. I will have a job, they are obliged to try to find me one and I am too expensive to make redundant. I will write more here over the coming days when my head clears a little! Thanks to everyone who reads my blog for your support, it means a lot!

Hi Julie
Sorry to hear your news. The politics of the NHS just stinks doesn’t it. Hang in there and take every opportunity of skills workshops and everything else that’s on offer to help you work out just where you want to be.

Julie,
I’m sorry to hear that it wasn’t good news, but i am confident that someone with your skills, empathy and flexibility will succeed no matter what the NHS throws at them. We are just emeging from our own review and things are equally chaotic here. I wish you a happier new year and will keep in touch.

Many thanks both of you, Clive, I read the review by Liam Donaldson yesterday while waiting for the phone to ring! I am a bit concerned at the speed everything gets re-reviewed and reorganised these days. It creates uncertainty and low morale, and a definate reduction in productivity. I guess there are no jobs going at the NPSA?

Hi Julie,
Sorry to hear the news. I have been reading your blog for only a couple of months, but in this short space of time I have come to really appreciate your insights. Good luck with the next few weeks. I’m sure you’ll find a way to continue to make positive contributions to people’s lives.

Like the others, commiserations on not keeping your job Julie. I hope for your peace of mind that the successful person is someone you can see got the job on merit. Its bad enough to come second to someone who you know is good and capable, let alone someone who you feel is not up to your standard.
I hope that a new career path will become apparent for you in the very near future, maybe something that turns out to be preferable, a silver lin for your dark cloud

Thanks Neil, I am thinking along those lines myself. As to the person who got the job? Well time will tell!

Jobs at the NPSA…it’s hard to say at the moment since the exact role and structure are just starting to be worked on. In terms of training, education, awareness raising etc., the SF paper says that this is now broadly the role of the National Inst for Improvement and Innovation, so if you fancy living in Warwickshire, you could try there! Our timescales for reorganising and refocusing are incredibly tight, so hopefully more will become clear shortly. I hope to be involved in some of the decision-making, but as one of the ‘old guard’ it’s hard to know for sure if that will happen.
