As far as I am concerned, all the best people are left handed but there are those who would insist that there is something wrong with being left handed. When I was at school, I had a teacher who kept trying to straighten either my book or chair. I was stubborn, and just carried on and generally it was talking in class that got me into more trouble. My mum though was made to use her right hand for writing even though she is sure she was actually a left hander. I have become quite ambidextrous, it is a case of have to. Everything in the world, scissors, knives, books are designed for those who are right handed. The only thing I can’t do is to use a spoon with my right hand, well I can but it feels mighty strange, so I use my left. Last week, I found a website especially for left handed people (though right handed people are allowed to visit) and low and behold, today 13th august is international left handers day. Take a look here!
After a slack few days, I need to catch up with my news on the blog. My visitor numbers are down and perhaps I am just turning boring, not posting enough or else perhaps the world is just too busy to read this drivel in August. Perhaps it is a combination of all 3 who knows?
So the last time I posted here, I was off to the races the next day. Hubby is never likely to be put off horses, racing and gambling while he wins, and for some reason he seems to have some kind of knack in the choosing of winners. I on the other hand have no knack and so lost all my money. The good news is, I got him to give me the money to bet with (and we aren’t talking high stakes here) and so it was his money I lost. I am however suffering in a different way. I bought some lovely, apparently comfortable shoes, in the sales last week and guess what? My feet don’t like them, my heels got rubbed to bits and even the elastoplast plasters I bought didn’t help. I have the kind of feet that cannot wear a pair of shoes comfortably until pain has been suffered and blood shed. I should know better, but there we are, I don’t.
Today I was completing an online questionnaire, which was about the consultation on local health services. They are planning to move acute services to one site and have less acute services at others. I was filling it in as both a local resident and also as an employee of the local economy. I know that this kind of thing is happening all over the country, we are moving from small is beautiful to very large is best. Financially and in terms of attracting the right kind of staff to work in our local hospitals it is no doubt the right thing. In terms of being popular with locals it is not so popular. What struck me though was the realisation I have now moved up a age bracket in terms of demographics for these things. I was in 35-44 but last week I appear to have moved up to 45-54 and I am not sure I am ready for that. Still no one would have known if I’d lied but I remain honest!! What hope is there, after all the shoes that rubbed my feet so badly were kind of sensible looking so in my opinion I am currently on a slippery slope.
In attempt to prevent my complete deterioration I am now on a diet and fitness regime. As previously mentioned, I am now a member of a club. So far so good and I am pretty confident of further weight loss this week. It is less of a diet and more of a regime of healthy eating. I have no problem with that, just hope I can keep it up for the duration, but I’ll give it a good try. I also have my very own Lateral Thigh Trainer (as seen on TV). I am enjoying standing infront of the TV stepping away toning up my hips and thighs (well thats the idea) not that I’ve seen any evidence of melting fat yet, but it is early days. Further progress will be reported here.
As you can see, I am still not writing much about the NHS and life within it. This is not because I am bored with work, but more because there hasn’t been much going on. Today I spent a bit of time responding to things other people have been writing, but all in it is quite non thrilling. Stuff I’d like to write about is a little contentious and I am not sure how to tackle without risking outing myself. I am thinking about it though. Tomorrow though I am going to talk about NHS pay and the latest pay rise or lack of it. This has been my longest post for ages, and all in celebration of being a lefty!!
