Is that today I was able to work from home. Back in the days when I was doing clinical nursing that just wouldn’t have worked out. For one thing I wouldn’t have wanted the patients knowing where I lived, plus I’d have had to have deep cleaned my house like they say they will be doing to hospitals any day soon. Also I don’t have the bed space.
Ok so I am slightly mad! But today I was taking delivery of my new fridge freezer and luckily had a free day in my diary and plenty of paperwork I have been avoiding or been too busy to get down to. So today I dressed for work in jeans, had more coffee than I might have at work, did my washing, took a walk in the sun and still got lots of paper work done. I was motivated, I enjoyed the peace and what is more the delivery was on time. I couldn’t work at home every day. I would miss the interaction with colleagues even the loud and annoying ones. I would miss the frustration of the IT going wrong and of finding no milk left in the fridge and having to run out for some more. Plus this job requires I go and interact with people who do actually do stuff with patients, it requires I pitch up for meetings and it requires I am in my office to accept phone calls and emails. But for the occasional day working from home is a bonus and quite a treat.
